Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Renz Marion Dulay, the independent developer who operates the Pause app ("Pause", "we", "us"). By downloading or using Pause, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1.Acceptance and eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into this agreement to use Pause. If you sign in to Pause, you are responsible for keeping access to your Apple or Google account secure and for the activity that happens under your Pause account.

2.What Pause is — and what it is not

Pause is a general wellness and reflection app. It offers mood check-ins, breathing and focus sessions, calming pauses, journaling, and gentle insights about your own activity.

Pause is not a medical device and does not provide medical, psychiatric, psychological, therapeutic, or crisis services. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. Pause is not suitable for emergencies. If you are concerned about your mental or physical health, please seek help from a qualified professional, and in an emergency contact your local emergency services.

3.Accounts and authentication

Pause can be used without creating an account. In guest mode, your Pause data stays on your device and is not synced to a Pause account. Signing in with Sign in with Apple or Google is optional and enables account-backed features such as syncing your preferences and backing up your data across devices.

Pause stores guest data and each signed-in account's data separately on your device, so if more than one person uses the same device, one account cannot see another account's data in the app. If you have been using Pause as a guest and sign in for the first time on that device, the guest data already on the device is associated with that account so you can continue using it; this happens once, for the first account only, and data is never combined between two different accounts.

You agree to provide accurate information and to use only accounts you are authorized to use. You can sign out at any time in Settings; signing out does not delete your account, does not delete that account's data stored on your device (it becomes readable again when you sign in again on that device), and does not cancel an App Store subscription. You can also permanently delete your account and its synced data yourself, from inside the app — open Settings and choose "Delete account." If you cannot access your account, email support.pauseapp@gmail.com and we will help. Deleting your account does not cancel an active App Store subscription; manage that in your Apple ID settings. The Privacy Policy describes what is deleted and what may be retained.

We may suspend or terminate an account as described in "Suspension and termination" below.

4.Your content and journals

You own the journal entries and any other content you create in Pause. We claim no ownership over them. You grant Pause only the limited rights needed to store your content, back it up and sync it when you have enabled that, display it back to you, and provide the features you request — nothing more.

Journal content is not used for AI features in the current version of Pause. A future journal-aware AI feature would require your separate, explicit opt-in first.

You agree not to use Pause to store or transmit content that is unlawful or that infringes someone else's rights.

5.AI-generated content

Pause offers AI-powered Premium features — deeper personalized grounding messages and weekly reflections — that use Google Gemini, an external AI service. These features run only when you have turned on AI Personalization; nothing is sent to an AI provider unless you have given that explicit permission.

When you use them:

  • Pause asks for your explicit permission before sending anything to the AI provider. Buying Premium does not give that permission, and neither does accepting these Terms.
  • Only the limited categories described in the Privacy Policy are sent. Journal entries and journal-derived information are not sent in this version of Pause.
  • You can withdraw your permission at any time in Settings. Withdrawing it disables future AI processing. It does not cancel your subscription, downgrade your Premium access, or delete your account.
  • A future journal-aware AI feature, if one ships, would require your separate, explicit permission and an updated Privacy Policy first.

AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, repetitive, or occasionally inappropriate despite our safeguards. It is offered for general wellness and personal reflection only. It is not medical, psychiatric, psychological, therapeutic, crisis, legal, financial, or other professional advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional. Do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial, safety-critical, or emergency decisions. AI features may change, be limited, or become unavailable, and they are available only to users aged 18 and older.

6.Subscriptions, trials, and billing

Pause offers an optional Premium subscription. Where available, weekly and annual plans may be offered. The exact price and currency for your region are shown in the app before you subscribe and may vary by region.

  • You do not need to create a Pause account to buy or restore Premium. Purchases are handled by Apple and tied to your Apple ID, so Premium works whether you use Pause as a guest or signed in. Signing in lets your Premium access follow you across devices.
  • The weekly plan may include a 3-day free trial when you are eligible. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the trial converts into a paid, auto-renewing subscription.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Apple handles all billing. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID subscription settings; deleting the Pause app does not cancel a subscription.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
  • Use "Restore purchases" in the app to regain access on a new or reset device.
  • Refund requests are handled by Apple under Apple's policies; we cannot issue App Store refunds directly.
  • Premium features require a valid, active entitlement. Attempting to bypass entitlement checks is a violation of these Terms.

7.Apple App Store terms

Pause is distributed through the Apple App Store, and your license to use the app is governed by Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"). These Terms supplement Apple's Standard EULA. If these Terms conflict with Apple's Standard EULA, Apple's Standard EULA controls to the extent applicable. In addition:

  • These Terms are between you and the developer of Pause, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Pause.
  • To the extent a refund is owed under a warranty that cannot be disclaimed, Apple may refund the purchase price of the app; Apple has no other warranty obligation for Pause.
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing claims relating to the app, including product-liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer-protection claims.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo and are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

8.Apple Music

Some Pause features can play music through Apple Music. Music access depends on your Apple Music authorization, the availability of the Apple Music service, and an eligible Apple Music subscription where one is required. Pause does not control Apple Music's catalog, pricing, or availability. You can revoke Pause's Apple Music access at any time in your device Settings. Your use of Apple Music remains subject to Apple's terms.

Pause does not charge for access to Apple Music. Any Pause Premium subscription applies only to Pause's own features and services and does not include an Apple Music subscription.

9.Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • misuse Pause or interfere with its normal operation
  • attempt to attack, overload, probe, or disrupt the service or its providers
  • access other users' data or attempt to bypass access controls, subscription checks, or entitlement controls
  • reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app, except where the law expressly permits it despite this restriction
  • use automated tools to abuse the service or its AI features, or use AI features to generate unlawful or harmful content
  • use Pause for any unlawful purpose

10.Intellectual property

The Pause app — including its software, visual design, branding, illustrations, fonts, sounds, third-party software packages, and other bundled content — is owned by or licensed to the developer and is protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store terms. This section does not affect your ownership of your own content described in "Your content and journals".

11.Service availability and changes

Pause is actively developed: features may evolve, improve, or occasionally be replaced, and temporary interruptions can occur (for example during maintenance or provider outages).

We may add, change, limit, suspend, or remove features — including Premium features — where doing so is reasonably necessary for legal, regulatory, security, safety, technical, or operational reasons, or because a third-party service Pause depends on changes, restricts, or ends its own service. We do not promise that any particular feature will remain available indefinitely.

Where we make a change that materially affects a paid feature, we will give notice and any remedy required by applicable law, including mandatory consumer-protection law. Nothing in this section is intended to give us an unrestricted right to remove paid functionality arbitrarily, or to reduce rights you have under law.

12.Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access to Pause or an account if these Terms are seriously or repeatedly violated, if required by law, or to protect the service or other users. Where reasonable, we will notify you and give you a chance to export or request your data. You may stop using Pause at any time, and you can permanently delete your account yourself in Settings under "Delete account." Deleting your account removes your synced account data and clears your local Pause data on the device; some records may still be retained where the law requires or permits it, and Apple and our payment providers keep their own transaction records. The Privacy Policy explains what is deleted and what may be retained.

13.Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Pause is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for loss of data, arising from your use of Pause. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to Pause is limited to the amount you paid for Pause in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, and nothing in these Terms reduces your rights as a consumer under mandatory consumer-protection law, including under Philippine law.

14.Governing law, disputes, and contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes that cannot be resolved informally shall be brought before the competent courts of the Philippines, except where mandatory law gives you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. If we make material changes to these Terms, we will update the effective date above and communicate the change in the app before it applies.
